I recently took my dog here for a procedure that he gave me a quote on and after it was all done he charged me almost damn near double what he had originally quoted. This is by far the most expensive vet I've ever been to and he greatly lacks in communication. I had my previous vet fax him paperwork on my dog to explain her history with this recurring tumor that we were having the procedure on and he didn't even look at it. Nothing! To me this demonstrates lack in being a professional in your area. I've seen a couple vets due to moving around and was not impressed in my experience with him at all, though I did like the vet techs. I feel like he price gouges his clients and is unethical. Will not be back.
Dr. Heyman was great. His practice is small, and he is the only vet at Northside Veterinary Clinic, which is nice so that he can get to know you and your pet. He took the time to talk with me to get to know my dog's living situation and was able to answer all questions I had. I have a large breed puppy, who is pretty high energy, and will refuse to go into certain homes or businesses (I guess she is a great judge of character). She was so excited to go in and loved Dr Heyman and his assistants, and she seemed to feel right at home.
Dr Heyman is a gentle, sensitive and competent vet with many years of experience. In addition to well-cat care, he has supported me and my children on two occasions of needing to put cats to sleep. He came to our home, and held the space so beautifully. We were able to take all the time we needed for our own transition as well as our animals' transitions. He has a huge heart and I trust him completely, and recommend him as often as I can.
Super care, Dr. Heyman is a great vet and he is supported by Anita, super vet tech!
Great vet! His staff are friendly and professional, and he is helpful without being preachy. What a great find in Santa Fe! Great care for my cat.
My husband and I love Northside Veterinary Clinic. We moved to Santa Fe 2 years ago and were in need of a vet for our cat. I looked around online and was first encouraged to come to Northside from their website, I loved the feel of it and all the pictures Dr. Heyman had with the animals he cares for. Since then we have taken out cat, Boulder to see him 2 times for her yearly checkups and it's been a fantastic experience. I think she actually enjoys going which is strange for a cat. He and his staff have a very special way with animals, very calming and caring. I am so so happy to have found such a great vet in the Santa Fe area and would highly recommend anyone who is looking for a vet to go here!
Shortly after the below post (within a few weeks) in which we didn't have a great experience we met with another vet. They did a full physical and found several other lumps. One of which was cancerous. So to add to the below incident they also missed some lumps because they never performed a physical on our dog. Luckily this other vet found the other lumps and took the appropriate measures.
I took my dog for an annual check up. Dr. Heyman was friendly if not entirely thorough. I then called to get a RX written so I could provide heart worm and tick medication to my dog. I've always used 1-800-pet meds as they are cheaper and more convenient. I was told that the Dr charges $25 per prescription or I could pick them up- at a huge mark up- from his office. I find this unethical and ridiculous. I have been to numerous vets and never experienced anything similar. He basically has a monopoly on his patients and is price gouging them with no concern for the animal's well being or the his clientele's finances. Needless to say I will find another vet.
We had a great experience with Dr. Heyman and his staff. They were very helpful in scheduling us right away for a visit. They were able to see me just a half hour after I got off the phone with them. They took extra good care of my cat during the examination, making sure he didn't get stressed out and didn't have to undergo any unnecessary shots, tests, or examinations. They were very patient with my high anxiety cat and with answering our many questions. We were also pleasantly surprised with their reasonable fee. We have had horrible experiences in the past with other vets, so we are very grateful & relieved that we discovered Northside Vet.
My dog is my child, and the quality of the medical care he receives is of utmost importance to me. I was nervous when I started the search for a veterinarian in Santa Fe, but, again and again, the same name kept popping up when I asked people for referrals---Dr. Heyman. Dr. Heyman is very warm and approachable. After a thorough exam of my pup, he answered all of my questions, hugged on my dog, and then we had a really nice conversation about life in general. Including vaccinations, heartworm and flea preventative, etc., the whole thing was about a third less than what I had been paying at my previous vet in Texas---where everything is supposedly "bigger and cheaper". I highly recommend Dr. Heyman and am so relieved that I didn't have to "vet shop" as I had feared.
I just moved to Santa Fe and was dreading finding a new vet. I went to Dr. Heyman based on the reviews I saw online and was not disappointed. Very calm demeanor, very professional, and he didn't try try to rush me. He answered all my questions very thoroughly. I will definitely recommend North Side Veterinary Clinic to anyone I come across who is looking for a vet in Santa Fe.
Dr. Heyman has the greatest bedside manner in Santa Fe. We've been bringing our puppies and kitties to him for 16 years for his compassionate competence.
